Briggs & Stratton is the world's largest manufacturer of air cooled gasoline engine.  The company products date back  90 years.  Mechanics must have information to obtain the proper parts for your engine. 

1st Group: are the Model Numbers.

2nd Group: are the Type Numbers and used to identify variation of the model number.  This number can be very important when ordering parts.

Briggs & Stratton use Model, Type and Code Number  to identify the different engines.  This information is stamped into engine, usually into the starter shroud on most engine.  The numbers will be stamped in  three separate groups. 

3rd Group:  are the Code Numbers.  This number gives information such as manufacture date.  The first 2 number will be the year the engine was made.
